Lincoln Land – 73
Jefferson College – 48
The Lincoln Land Loggers played at home in Cass Gymnasium for the first time this season and protected their home court coming away with a 73-48 victory over the Vikings of Jefferson College.
After spending nearly the whole month of November on the road, the Loggers were looking forward for an opportunity to play at home and in front of a local crowd. Neither team made much of an offensive impression early as neither team was scoring at too frequent of a clip as they played within just a few points of each other for much of the first 10:00. The Loggers put together a mini run to get out by an 8 point advantage, but the Vikings fought back to 24-21 with 6:00 to go. That 6:00 stretch ended up being impactful on the final outcome as LLCC shut out the Viking scoring for over four minutes and closed on a 16-2 run to go into break up 40-24.
If Jefferson College had any hope of getting back in the game it was doused on the first possession of the second half when the Loggers came out and got a bucket from sophomore Nick Cook that seemed to set the tone that the end of the half wasn’t a fluke. The second half never got fully competitive as every small run by the Vikings was answered by the Loggers. When Jefferson cut it to 12, LLCC put together stops and buckets to push it right back out to 16-20. As time ticked away, the Loggers pulled further and further away until the final buzzer saw them ahead by a commanding 25.
This was a complete team effort from the satirical side. Each of the 9 Loggers who played in the first half scored and pulled in at least one rebound. On the night, 12 Loggers played, all ended with at least 2 rebounds with every player chipping in on the effort. The Loggers got a season high 16 assists on 30 field goals. LLCC won every offensive category except free throw percentage by outshooting from the field, out rebounding Jefferson College, and committing less turnovers.
Dane Foster gets a huge shout out for his effort, first for ending with a double-double of 12 points and a game high 11 boards. Foster’s 12 points came from 4/5 three point shooting on the night. Foster’s second shout out comes for being the primary defender on the Vikings leading scorer holding him to only 5 points during the game. Camren Kincaid tied for a game high with 15 while also continuing to contribute at all aspects with 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Axel Laby came off the bench to add in 10 to be the last Logger in double digits. Nine Loggers scored and those 9 had at least 5 a piece.
Lincoln Land improves to 2-3 on the season. They stay home for the rest of the semester, next against Black Hawk College on Saturday afternoon.
