The Lincoln Land women’s basketball team played their first home game of the season and defeated the Triton College Trojans 80-54 at Cass Gymnasium. The Loggers started out the game by scoring 25 points in the first period. Lincoln Land used pressure defense and quick offense to jump on the Trojans quickly and lead by 14 at the end of the first period.
The second quarter saw Triton get hot from beyond the three point and hit three baskets from long range. During the period, the Logger offense slow down and both teams matched pace in the period. Lincoln Land took a 14 point lead into the halftime break.
The second half started with a quick six nothing Logger run before Triton got on the board. The Loggers manage to score eight field goals in the period and outscored Triton by 12 in the period to take a 26 point lead into the final frame.
The final quarter was a draw as every Lincoln Land player saw action in the period. Lincoln Land held Triton over 20 points under their season average. The final score was 80-54. “We did some good things tonight” stated Logger coach Chad Jones. “We have some things to work on as well. It was good to finally get a home game under our belt.” Marley Smith lead the Loggers with 24 points.
Megan Harrell had another solid game scoring 17 points. Sam Lindhorst chipped in 13 points while dishing out seven assists. Freshman Whitney Rumbold led the way on the glass by pulling down a season high eight rebounds.
Lincoln Land travels to Chicago on Tuesday to take on Prairie State College in a non-conference match up before Thanksgiving. The Loggers improve to 5-1 on the season.
