LLCC: Loggers Fall in First Match Up At Lake Land Classic

The Lincoln Land women’s basketball team traveled to Mattoon, Illinois to participate in the Laker Classic at Lakeland College and suffered an opening round loss to Southwestern Illinois College 63-70.

The first quarter saw both teams struggling with pressure defense and very few baskets scored. SWIC lead the Loggers by a bucket at the quarter break.

The second quarter started off similar to that of the first. With seven minutes remaining in the half, SWIC went on a 13-0 run that was eventually broken by a Sam Lindhorst three with 3:34 to go in the half. The Loggers turned the ball over seven times during that stretch.  Lincoln Land was down 22-40 at half.

The Loggers came out very aggressive in the second half and began to chip into the lead and cut the deficit to six before trailing by 10 at the end of the 3rd period. The Loggers started off strong in the 4th quarter, cutting the lead to three points. That was as close as the Loggers could get and eventually lost 63-70.

The Loggers were led in scoring by Marley Smith with 14. Whitney Rumbold contributed 12, while Avrie Schmidt chipped in 10. Smith lead the Loggers with 10 rebounds while Schmidt and Rumbold each grabbed 5.
