LLCC vs St. Louis Community College:
The Land took on St. Louis Community College in the first match on Sunday at OWT in Rockford, IL. The Loggers came out strong in set one taking down the Archers 25-15. Freshman Middle Blocker Sienna Hadley earned a hat trick from the service line, rolling off 3 aces in a row, bringing the Loggers lead to 12-6, forcing a St. Louis timeout. Peyton Bergschneider displayed an outstanding offensive performance in set one with 6 kills and no errors producing a hitting percentage of .750.
The Loggers took the second set 25-21 with a balanced offensive before dropping set three 24-26. Mckenna Blackwell recorded 4 kills in the second set recording a .571 hitting percentage and tallying 3 blocks. Sophomore Setter Kenna Bixby distributed the offensive nicely with 30 assists. Peyton Bergschneider ended the match with an incredible double double posting 17 kills hitting .333 and chipping in 19 digs. The Loggers took the forth and final set 25-16.
LLCC vs Black Hawk College:
Set one displayed some obstacles with official score delays. The flow of the game never emerged for the Loggers in the opening set, leading to a 17-25 loss for Lincoln Land. This only added gasoline to the Loggers fire as they went on a rampage taking the remaining three sets for the victory. Set scores included (25-12, 25-15, 25-7)
Bergschneider recorded another double double with 11 kills and 11 digs while Hannah Clayton added 11 digs to the defense. Kenna Bixby notched a double double as well from the setters position with 19 assists and 10 digs. Bergschneider, Clayton and Blackwell all had excellent performances from the service line collectively recording 19 aces (5, 8 and 6). In set two, Blackwell ripped 4 aces to take the dub. During set three Clayton went on a 15-point service terror which included 7 aces, dominating the set.
The Loggers finish their opening weekend with a record of 4-0. Lincoln Land plays their first home match this Wednesday August 23 at 6:00 pm in Cass Gym against Southeastern Illinois College.
