LLCC vs Owens Community College:
The Logger’s Volleyball team started off their 2023 season opener with a 3-0 sweep against Owens Community College in Rockford, IL at the Opening Weekend Tournament.
Peyton Bergschneider and Hannah Clayton both finished the match with double doubles from the left pin. Bergschneider with 14 kills and 14 digs while Clayton had 10 kills and 10 digs respectively. Kenna Bixby, sophomore setter notched 23 assists and chipping in 5 aces while she camped out at the service line with 23 service throughout the match.
The Loggers came back in set 1 to take the win, after trailing 0-5 to start the set. This forced a Logger timeout. The team continued to fight but were down 2-10 and 4-15 at certain points. Kenna Bixby went on an eleven-point service run from the line, while the Logger offense started to heat up. Lincoln Land took the first set with an incredible effort making the final score 26-24 over Owens. Final scores for set 2 and 3 had the Loggers taking both set wins (25-18, 25-22).
LLCC vs Moraine Valley Community College:
The Logger’s took on Moraine Valley Community College in their second match of the day. Lincoln Land pulled off an incredible feat yet again in a five-set thriller. After dropping the first set 21-25, the Loggers took the second set 26-24 in dramatic fashion. Moraine Valley answered back with a third set victory, 25-21. Followed again by a Loggers win in the fourth set posting a score of 25-23. The Loggers pulled through in the fifth set taking the match, posting a 15-12 victory.
McKenna Blackwell dominated the offense, leading in kills with 13, from the right pin. Peyton Bergschneider and Hannah Clayton both finished the match with double doubles, both tallying 11 kills each. Bergschneider led the squad with an excellent defensive effort with 17 digs. Clayton posted 12 digs while Sydney McTaggart finished with 11. Sophomore setter, Kenna Bixby, dished 38 assists in the 5 setter.
The Loggers prepare for Sunday’s matches, taking on St. Louis Community College at 11:00 am followed by a match against Black Hawk Community College at 1:00 pm.
