East St Louis Outlasts Sacred Heart Griffin in Double Overtime To Punch Ticket To State


 

Macaleab Rich went 14 of 15 from the free throw line for 24 points while grabbing 13 rebounds to help the East St Louis Flyers get their revenge and punch their ticket to state. East St Louis beat Sacred Heart Griffin 59-56 in double overtime to advance to the state tournament in Champaign on Friday where they will play Metamora at 11:45 am in the 3A semifinal. Zack Hawkinson had 21 points and 11 rebounds for SHG, who also got 21 points from Jake Hamilton. D’Necco Rucker hit a shot from about 12 feet out at the buzzer in the first overtime to force a second in which the Flyers outscored the Cyclones 8-5. Full box score below:
