The Lincoln Land women’s basketball team suffered a 65-60 loss at the hands of John Wood Wednesday night. The Loggers started out hot scoring the first 6 points of the game. However, John Wood would come back to tie the score and eventually take an 18-14 first quarter advantage.
The Loggers would make a run during the second quarter to cut the John Wood lead to 29-27 at the half. Marley Smith and Addison Scarlette each had 8 points in the first half.
The third quarter would be the bright spot for Lincoln Land. Both the offense and defense would have great outcomes for the Loggers. The offense would find its rhythm and produce 20 points. The Logger defense also stepped up to limit John Wood to 9 points in the period. The Lincoln Land run provided a 47-38 advantage.
The fourth quarter saw the tide turn on the Loggers. John Wood would storm back in a see saw battle down the stretch. Lincoln Land found themselves down 60-58 with 23 seconds remaining in the game. After a Logger timeout, Kirsten Taylor found Marley Smith in the lane on a sideline play and the Freshman produced a bucket to tie the game at 60. On the ensuing John Wood possession, the Blazers found a shooter in the corner for a go ahead 3. Lincoln Land called a timeout to advance the ball with 7.3 seconds remaining. Unfortunately the inbound pass was intercepted and the Blazers finished the game with a lay up to seal the victory.
Marley Smith had a double/double of 14 points and 10 rebounds. Addison Scarlette poured in a team high 15 points and 9 rebounds. Kirsten Taylor finished with 9 points and 8 boards. Rounding out the Loggers scoring were Cassidy Kretschmer 8, Kayla Kodat 6, Madison Lovett 4, Taylor Nowaskie 4.
