LLCC: Women’s Basketball Team Beat Spoon River by 20


 

The Lincoln Land women’s basketball team picked up their 16th win of the season by downing Spoon River College 76-56.  The Loggers started off hot offensively as they poured in 20 points in the first quarter. The Lincoln Land defense was equally productive as they held the Snappers to 10 first quarter points. Spoon River would not go away in the second frame. The Snappers outscored the Loggers 19-14 cut the lead to 34-29 at half. Sophomore Addison Scarlette lead the Loggers with 9 first half points while Sophomore Kayla Kodat added 8.The third quarter was the turning point in the contest. Lincoln Land had their best offensive output of the game, scoring 26 points. The stingy defense forced multiple turnovers with the full court pressure and held Spoon River to just 13 points. Freshman Avrie Schmidt went 7/8 from the free throw line and Sophomore Kirsten Taylor poured in 9 points to propel the Loggers.Entering the final frame up 60-42, Lincoln Land was able to gain their largest lead of 26 points with 3:01 remaining in the game. Taylor would lead Lincoln Land with 5 points in the final quarter as the Loggers finished with a 76-56 victory.Addison Scarlette had a double/ double of 19 points and 11 rebounds. Kirsten Taylor also had a double/double of 18 points and 13 rebounds. Rounding out the Logger scoring was Avrie Schmidt 13, Kayla Kodat 10, Cassidy Kretschmer 6, Taylor Nowaski 6, Madison Lovett 4. The Loggers return to action Monday, Feb. 13 as they host Millikin University JV in a 5:30 pm non-conference match.
Lincoln Land improves their record to 16-6 and 5-3 in MWAC play.
