LLCC: Women’s Basketball Team Lose A Close Contest Against Danville Area


 

Turnovers were the downfall for the Lincoln Land women’s basketball team on Saturday afternoon. Danville Area forced 39 of them which led to a 64-58 Logger loss. Statistically, Lincoln Land held a 41-24 rebound advantage and shot 45% to Danville’s 36%. Unfortunately for Lincoln Land, giving up 35 points off turnovers was too much to overcome.
Lincoln Land had a tough time scoring during the first half. The Loggers could only put up 10 points in the first quarter and trailed 15-10 after one. Danville was able to extend their lead in the second by outscoring Lincoln Land 19-13 for a 34-23 halftime advantage. Freshman Marley Smith had 10 points to lead the Logger scoring while Sophomore Addison contributed 4.Lincoln Land would mount a great comeback to start the second half. The Loggers found their offense and outscored Danville 18-9 to cut the lead to 43-41 after three periods of play. Scarlette and Smith once again lead the Lincoln Land attack by scoring 8 and 5 points respectively.  The Loggers continued to put pressure on Danville and eventually evened the score midway through the fourth quarter. Lincoln Land had a chance to take the lead with 3:30 remaining in the game but couldn’t convert. The missed opportunity led to a Danville basket at the other end and the Loggers could never get the timely bucket they needed as time ran out.Danville had their best scoring output of the game by scoring 21 points in the fourth while Lincoln Land hit for 17. Sophomore Kirsten Taylor drained two 3-point baskets and a field goal for 8 points in the frame, but it wasn’t enough as the Loggers dropped to 3-3 in conference and 14-6 overall.Marley Smith finished the game with a double/double of 15 points and 11 rebounds. Addison Scarlette went for 14 while Kirsten Taylor had 11. Freshman Avrie Schmidt added 7 points and 8 rebounds.Lincoln Land is back in action on Thursday, February 9th as they host Illinois College JV at 5:30 pm in Cass Gym.
