Trinity In Taylorville Prime Time Performer: August 22-27

Here are this week’s candidates for the Trinity Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Taylorville Prime Time Performer.

Ty Lott (Sacred Heart Griffin Football) Sacred Heart Griffin opened up the season with a big win over Rochester on Friday night at Ken Leonard Field. Lott started off the season by going 18-for-22 with 322 passing yards and four touchdowns. Expect big things from Lott and the Cyclones this season. Don’t miss the Leonard Bowl HIGHLIGHTS.

Makenna Cox (Lutheran High Volleyball) The Crusaders are looking good this season as they return every varsity starter from their fourth place finish at state last year. They won their own tournament for the second year in the row on Saturday while Cox was named Tournament MVP. She had 16 kills in the championship game against Staunton.

Jack Knudson (Glenwood Football) In another big Central State Eight football game in week one the Titans picked up a win over Jacksonville. Knudson got it done for Glenwood in the air with three touchdown and 352 yards while he also picked up a rushing touchdown. Another big one for the Titans this week as they travel to Decatur to take on MacArthur. Check out the action against Jacksonville HERE.

Cory Craig Jr (Athens Football) Athens got an early start to the season with a Thursday night matchup against the Saukees in Pittsfield. The Warriors took the 40-0 victory with Craig accounting for four touchdowns. He finished with 230 rushing yards on the night. See those touchdowns HERE.

Riley Drake (Jacksonville Volleyball) Jacksonville started off the season with a big win on the court with a three set victory (17–25, 26-24, 25-21) against Glenwood. Drake led the team in digs with nine and also added 6 kills in the win. Check out the Crimson victory HERE.

Noah Rodenburg (Lutheran High Boys Soccer) Lutheran won three of their four games in the opening week of the season and Rodenburg was a big contributor to the offense during those games. He finished with five goals across the four games with one assist.

Addy Eades (Sacred Heart Griffin Girls Golf) The Rocket Invite was held on Saturday and Eades was the top area finisher with a second place finish after a one hole playoff. She finished with a 76 before falling to QND’s Hana Knuffman.

Sawyer Smith (Auburn Football) The Trojans kicked off the season with a win at home over the New Berlin Pretzels on Friday night. Smith picked up two touchdown in the win, one on offense with the other coming on special teams. The first was a 58 yard receiving touchdown with the other being a 58 yard punt return. Carson Moscardelli (Athens Boys Soccer) The Warriors got a big performance from Moscadelli as they opened Sangamo play on Monday at Riverton. Moscadelli had two goals and one assist in the 4-3 season opening victory. HIGHLIGHTS

Alaina Marr (PORTA Volleyball) The PORTA BlueJays are off to a great start this year picking up five wins in seven games this week while finishing fifth at the Crusader Classic. Marr racked up 123 assists, 44 digs, 12 kills, seven blocks and eight aces over the seven games while also adding an all-tournament team selection on Saturday.

Colin Cunningham (U-High Football) Cunningham is back as the Pioneers’ quarterback this year and started the season off right in a week one victory. Against Lanphier on Friday night he threw for 171 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 52 yards and another touchdown. See some of the highlights from that win HERE.

Kyle Ward (Sacred Heart Griffin Boys Soccer) We started the CS8 soccer slate with a big game between SHG and Rochester on Tuesday night. The Cyclones came back from being down one for the 2-1 victory. Ward picked up an assist to tie the game at one then scored the game winner with 22 minutes left. Check out the highlights HERE.
