Jr. Blues Come From Behind Twice to Sweep Minnesota Magicians

It was a tale of two comebacks at the Nelson Center last weekend as the Springfield Jr. Blues begin to wind down the regular season in the North American Hockey League (NAHL).  On Friday night, the Jr. Blues and Magicians were scoreless until Minnesota’s Jon Bell broke the tie at 8:56 of the 2nd period. The Jr. Blues would then storm back with 6 unanswered goals to beat the Magicians 6-1.  Tristan Shewchuck led the Jr. Blues’ scoring with 2 goals and an assist.  Hayden Riva, Isaac Keller, Brayden Cook, and Carson Jones all had goals as well, and goaltender Aksel Reid stopped 33 of 34 Minnesota shots.

On Saturday night, the crowd of over 1,200 at the Nelson Center was treated to one of the most exciting games in recent memory.  Noah Marino got the Blues on the board first with his 4th goal of the season, but then Minnesota would come back and score 3 unanswered.  The Blues remained down by 2 until just over 2 minutes left in the 3rd period when Leo Bacallo scored his 22nd of the season.  Despite taking a costly penalty with just over a minute and a half left in regulation, the Blues would tie it up on a shorthanded goal from Isaac Keller, his 6th of the season.  Blues defenseman Noah Marino sealed the win 1:20 into overtime with his 6th of the season and 2nd of the game.  Blues goaltender Aksel Reid stopped 25 of 28 Minnesota shots to earn his 2nd win of the weekend.

Following last weekend’s sweep of the Minnesota Magicians, the Blues sit in a first place tie with the Fairbanks Ice Dogs in the Midwest Division of the NAHL.  They hit the road the next two weekends to play the Minnesota Wilderness (3/31 and 4/1) and the Chippewa Steel (4/7 and 4/8) before returning home to the Nelson Center for the final weekend of the regular season against the Janesville Jets (4/15 and 4/16).
