Springfield High picked up right where they left off last season, with an extra inning victory to open Central State Eight play in the 2022 season. The 2021 3A state champions beat Rochester 7-5 in eight innings on Friday afternoon at UIS in the first game of a doubleheader in conference play. Enrico Veach got the win on the mound and drove in a run, Jack Swaney hit a solo home run and the Senators moved to 1-1 on the season and 1-0 in CS8 play.
