For a little over an hour the New Berlin Pretzels had all of Central Illinois wondering if they could pull the mother of all upsets at the #2 ranked team in Class 2A, Maroa-Forsyth.
Eventually, the Trojan defense and big play offense would take over in the second half as Maroa-Forsyth rallied to pull away 34-13 over the Pretzels. New Berlin would dominate time of possession in the first half to garner a 10-0 lead in the second quarter and a 13-7 lead going into halftime.
The Trojans would turn up the heat in the second half and pull away thanks to three big play touchdowns of 60 yards or more. Bryson Boes would add two short touchdown runs to round out the offense for Maroa-Forsyth, as they move their record to 2-0 with the win.
New Berlin will host North Mac in Week Three, while the Maroa-Forsyth Trojans make the long trip to Pittsfield to take on the Saukees.
