U-High had to play without all conference point guard Alex Wood and it showed early but the Pioneers picked it up in the second half and beat SHG 70-67 in the fifth game of the Springfield Clinic Sports Medicine Sportsradio 1450 Capital City Showcase on Saturday at the BOS Center.
Nate Torres scored 24 points for the Pioneers and Drew Wollenschlager added 20. SHG’s Charlie Hamilton had 27 points but struggled with foul trouble and fouled out early in the fourth quarter. Nick Broeker added 14 for the Cyclones.
