If you thought the big stage and bright lights would have an impact on Southeast in their first trip to the state tournament in their 51 year history, it’s time to rethink that position. Junior point guard Terrion Murdix showed the state what central Illinois had a front seat to all season, with a 19 point, 13 rebound, six steal and three assist performance in a 60-38 win over North Chicago in the 3A semifinals. Anthony Fairlee added 14 points, seven rebounds and an alley-oop dunk from Stepheon Sims in the fourth quarter to put the game on ice.
Southeast advances to Saturday’s finals where they’ll play defending state champ Morgan Park, who’s won three of the last five 3A titles.
