Southeast won all but one game over the last month with starting point guard Terrion Murdix sidelined with a broken hand suffered in the City Tournament championship game. Still, his return on Tuesday in a 72-51 win over Lanphier, reaffirmed the belief of many that the Spartans still deserve the No. 1 state ranking they entered the game with.
Murdix posted 21 points, five rebounds, three steals and three assists in his return and he helped the Spartans close on a 39-14 run. He was one of four Spartans to score in double digits. Kobe Medley and Stepheon Sims both had 11 and Michael Tyler added 10.
Cardell McGee led Lanphier with 20 points and five rebounds.
The win pulls Southeast and Lanphier into a tie atop the Central State 8 standings. Southeast hosts Normal U-Uigh and Lanphier hosts Glenwood on Friday on the final day of the regular season.
