Auburn came into Pleasant Plains to open up Sangamo action for girls varsity basketball on Thursday night, and almost came out with a win. Pleasant Plains has looked downright dominant to start the season in tournament play, but on Thursday Auburn hung with the Cardinals, even going into halftime with an 18-16 lead.
But by the fourth the Cardinals had seized a 30-22 lead thanks in part to three three’s from sophomore guard Caroline Jachino, and they didn’t look back with a 35-27 win. Jachino finished with 15 to lead all scorers and Hannah Smith led the Trojans with 12.
