Joey Lee (Pleasant Plains Soccer) The Cardinals are moving on to sectional soccer! A big reason why last week was Joey Lee who had an assist in a 2-0 win over North Mac in the semifinal before scoring two goals, including the game winner on Saturday against Riverton. SHG better take note on Wednesday
Deondre Gregory (Maroa-Forsyth Running Back) In case you didn’t see the highlights…the battle of the Sangamo Trojans was full of scores. Maroa-Forsyth put up 75 points on their senior night and their senior tailback had a part in six touchdowns. Deondre Gregory crossed the goal line six times and racked up 193 rushing yards in the process.
Luke Lehnen (Glenwood Quarterback) Call him a sophomore all you want, but Jubbar Cross said it best after the game… “the kid’s a BEAST”. Luke Lehnen had a hand in all four touchdowns for the Titans in their win over MacArthur. Lehnen had 138 passing yards, two passing touchdowns, 96 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns.
Nic Baker (Rochester Quarterback) Basically perfect. Nic “No Picks” Baker is one game away from completing a regular season without throwing an interception. Ridiculous. He’s completed 73 percent of his passes and thrown 34 touchdowns against no picks. Week 8 he had 320 yards in the air and six touchdowns to six different wide receivers.
Spencer Redd (SHG Wide Receiver) We try to get videos of players on the sidelines after they make big plays for our highlights. That’s really hard to do with Spencer Redd because he never leaves the field. Redd was impactful in all aspects of the game against Springfield High, rushing for two touchdowns, picking off two Springfield passes and he even had a big kickoff return after the Senators scored their only touchdown to help the Cyclones answer right back.
Nik Samson (Pleasant Plains Running Back) The Cardinals ground and pound game got them into the 3A playoffs. All season long, the steady run game of Nik Samson has been chugging them along and leading to big wins. Samson rushed for 203 yards and three scores against the Saukees to seal at least one extra game for Plains in the postseason.
Grant Ripperda (Williamsville Running Back) All season long the Bullets offense has been through the air and carried Williamsville into Week 9 still undefeated. In order to win in the postseason, every team needs a run game. Grant Ripperda is going to be that guy in the coming weeks and he showed he’s capable with 154 yards on the ground and two rushing scores in Week 8.
Mason Reiff (Athens Quarterback) Competing for a conference championship is the goal of every team entering the season. A lot of that weight was thrust on the shoulders of Mason Reiff as the starting quarterback of the Warriors this season. Not only has he shown he’s capable, but he’s also developed into a passing threat as well. Reiff went 6 for 7 last week, throwing for two scores in the air, while rushing for another.
Jett Gay (Glenwood Soccer) He transferred into Glenwood this season and has been a major reason why the Titans took a share of the CS8 title. Last week in their last conference game, Gay scored a goal right before halftime to give the Titans the lead and then scored the game winner with under 13 to play.
T.J. Painter (Pleasant Plains Golfer) He had to come back and shoot a great round on Saturday to earn it, but we know T.J. Painter isn’t afraid of the big moments. The lefty pitcher put his name in the school record books for golf with a third place finish at the state tournament, shooting an eight over 152 which is tied for the best finish in Cardinals history.
