North Mac entered the season as a two-time defending Sangamo champion. The Panthers played in the 3A state semifinals last season. Yet, in the 2017 opener, North Mac trailed a PORTA team that won just one game a season ago with less than seven minutes to play in the fourth quarter.
North Mac quarterback Jake Mullink dove over the goal line with 3:53 left in regulation to put North Mac up for good. The junior threw one touchdown and ran for two more in the win.
