After Glenwood plated six runs in the fifth inning, punctuated by Reid Detmers’ two-run home run to center field, the Titans seemed in firm control of Champaign Central, leading 6-3 with momentum on their side.
The Maroons battled against Reid Detmers, though and forced him to exit after 5-plus innings at 105 pitches and 10 strikeouts. As soon as Detmers came out of the game, Central exploded for six runs in the sixth to grab back the lead en route to a 9-7 win.
The Maroons advance to Monday’s Sauget Super sectional against Mascoutah.
It is Central’s first sectional championship since 1968.
