Morton defeated Rochester, 44-37 in the class 3A state championship on Saturday, marking the third year in a row in which the Potters are state champions.
For Rochester, the loss is the Rockets second runner-up finish in the last three years; quite the achievement as well.
Morton and Rochester, two of the best programs in the state over the last few years traded punches for the entire game, switching leads until Morton pulled away in the fourth quarter. No team led by more than five points until the fourth quarter.
Angela Perry scored 15 points and nine rebounds for the Rockets. Morton shot 60 percent from three-point range and racked up 15 second chance points to Rochester’s five.
