Area
1. Pleasant Plains: Another week into the Kyle Weber era and two more wins for the Birds. The Cardinals continue to get stronger down the stretch with the young guys learning how to play with the veterans under the new regime. Two more winnable games are on the radar for the weekend before a Sangamo showdown with Auburn on Tuesday.
2. PORTA: We weren’t so sure about the Bluejays about a month ago because of their strength of schedule to start the season. We’re ready to say that Max Muller has his team ready to compete for the conference crown. Muller’s supporting cast has proven to be capable of scoring when teams are able to somewhat slow down the senior Muller.
3. Williamsville: Tuesday night showed the struggles of the Bullets. They won the game but could not pull away. Williamsville beat New Berlin by five but the offense is still lacking. Defensively, they showed they can compete last Friday with the defending 2A champs but we feel Plains & PORTA just simply have more firepower.
4. New Berlin: The Pretzels hung with New Berlin but their lack of consistent offense came through again. The positive for Pretzel nation is their 1A postseason run will not see the likes of most of their Sangamo foes.
5. Lutheran High: Last week we said the fifth spot was up to Auburn and South County and the Trojans won the matchup, but Lutheran High beat them both on back to back nights. Under new management, the Crusaders look like a team to contend with down the stretch in the MSM with guys like Drew Cowles dropping 25 a night.
