City Scare: Lanphier Needs Overtime Against SHG to Set up Championship Rematch

Yaakema Rose had a double double at halftime but the Lions couldn’t quite put away the Cyclones. SHG stormed back in the third quarter and took an eight point lead in the fourth quarter but the number two ranked team in Class 3A and the top seed at the 2017 City Tournament survived an overtime thriller 69-62.

After SHG took an eight point lead with about six minutes to play, the Lions put the ball in Yaakema Rose’s hands and he delivered. Rose finished with 27 points and 12 rebounds. Rose had a shot to win it at the buzzer in regulation but his shot hit the front of the rim, but Lanphier scored the first four of the overtime to put the game in hand.

SHG responded from a 30 point loss to Southeast on Thursday to force the overtime period, led by Jack O’Connor with 16, Spencer Redd with 15 and Tim Brenneisen with ten.

Lanphier will play Southeast for the City championship on Saturday night following the Springfield High vs. Sacred Heart-Griffin.
