Tri-City came out of the gates in the first half and had its way with Athens, eventually building a 12 point lead thanks to fast break and transition points. Late in the second quarter, the Warriors started to find their groove, built some momentum and embarked on a come back to survive the first round upset in the Sangamon County Tournament.
With the 64-57 win, Athens advances to face the winner of Pawnee and Pleasant Plains. Due to the losses of senior Hunter Maxwell and Ethan Chavis, the Warriors had to rely on some youngsters down the stretch.
