Athens’ junior Wyatt McIntyre finished second in Saturday’s 1A boys cross country state meet at Detweiler Park in Peoria, Illinois. His 14:23 was just four seconds off the pace of Rock Falls’ Brayden Hamblen, who passed McIntyre in the final 200 meters to collect the win. As a team, Athens finished 12th.
Glenwood and Springfield High finished 8th and 10th respectively in the 2A boys team standings. Chris Durr of Glenwood was the highest area finisher individually, crossing 32nd in the 2A race at a time of 15:15.
Williamsville led the way in the Girls 1A race, finishing in 5th place as a team. Pleasant Plains’ freshman Caroline Jachino was the top finishing individual in 12th place with a time of 17:56.
Glenwood and Springfield High finished 15th and 25th respectively in the 2A girls race. Rochester’s Katherine Petty was the top area individual finisher with a 37th place finish in a time of 18:04.
