With 10:08 left in the first half, Springfield High led Rochester 2-0.
With 9:01 until halftime, the Senators led the Rockets 9-0.
Rochester got a good wake up call in Week 9, playing at Memorial Stadium on Thursday, but were able to turn up their offense in the second half enough to pull away from the Senators for a 41-23 win over Springfield High.
While Springfield came in just looking to play spoiler already eliminated from postseason play, the Rockets were looking to get an extra day of rest before their first round matchup in the 4A playoffs.
Springfield’s Rahkeem Hawkins sacked Nic Baker in the end zone to get Springfield on the board to start the second quarter and then Lucas Rockford ran in a 20 yard score to put the Senators up 9-0 and wake the Rockets up.
Rochester would take a 13-9 lead into the half and Avante’ Cox would score his second touchdown of the night on the Rockets’ opening drive of the second half but the Senators never quit.
Rockford would find Reed Carlson for a passing touchdown and then would run for another score in the fourth quarter, but the Rochester offense put up too many points in the second half, led by Nic Baker and Avante’ Cox.
Rochester (8-1) will await the IHSA playoff selection show on Saturday night.
