Returning three year quarterback Nick Hanner along with a bunch of exceptional athletes proved to be the difference in week one as Athens outlasted Pleasant Plains in the game of the week in the Sangamo.
Hanner found Devin Richardson for touchdowns of 47 yards and 10 yards, as well as rushed for another score to lead the Warriors to a 27-10 victory. Pleasant Plains got a field goal in the first half from Kai Carlberg and a 53 yard TD reception from the junior wide receiver from Zach Ely in his first start as QB of the Cardinals.
Drayton Davis scored the game’s final touchdown and Devin Richardson and Hunter Maxwell each had interceptions for the Warriors.
