Pleasant Plains fell to Beardstown 5-0 in the 2A Beardstown regional championship game on Saturday. The Tigers were able to avenge a 1-0 loss to the Cardinals from a season ago that came in a sectional semifinal.
Rick Dour pitched a complete game shutout for Beardstown. The Tigers took momentum in the first inning on a two-run Will Robertson home run to left field to open the scoring. Beardstown would tack one run on in the third inning on an Alec Taylor sacrifice fly. In the fifth inning, Taylor added a two-RBI double to left field.
With the loss the careers of Daulton Nibbe and Johnny Steinwart come to a close. In four years, Nibbe and Steinwart won a state title, finished state runner-up and played in a sectional final.
