Not only had Byron's Nolan Baker won all 43 of his matches by fall coming into Saturday's state final against PORTA's Trey Hild, but no opposing wrestler had scored a point on him yet this season either. Hild was not pinned, and he became the first wrestler to point on Baker, but he did not become the first to beat him, falling 11-3 in the 1A 132 pound state finals at the State Farm Center on Saturday night.
Hild, a sophomore, is now a two time runner-up at the IHSA state wrestling finals. He lost to a two time state champion as a freshman at 120 pounds before running into Baker in this year's 132 pound championship.
