Springfield 120 pound freshman Jacquez Stewart, 220 pound senior Terrion Taborn and Glenwood's 285 pound freshman Will Putnam all fell on Friday morning in the 2A state quarterfinals at the State Farm Center. The losses eliminate all three from a chance at wrestling for a state championship on Saturday night.
Stewart fell 8-3 to Bloomington's Jack Henderson. He rebounded in the wrestlebacks to pick up a win by fall at 3:21. Taborn's 5-3 quarterfinal loss came against Dixon's Connor Sperling. Taborn then won his wrestleback 5-4. Both Stewart and Taborn are one win away from being guaranteed a medal.
Putnam's 3-2 loss in the ultimate rideout came at the hands of Prairie Ridge's Dereck Pearson.
