Glenwood entered Saturday's 2A Springfield High regional as the team favorite, but after three Titans wrestlers failed to make weight, SHS took advantage of that window of opportunity to steal the 2A regional team crown. Glenwood had defeated Springfield in a team duel to win the Central State 8 title last week.
Glenwood head coach Jeremy Mosier cited a miscommunication from him to his team, saying he believed there was a three pound allowance at each weight class. However, all IHSA postseason wrestling meets use a two pound variance instead. Connor Hutchison (106 lbs), Brady Thompson (126 lbs) and returning state qualifier JD Turner (152 lbs) were unable to wrestle as a result. Both Thompson and Turner are seniors and the error marked the end of their high school careers. All three wrestlers stayed for the duration of the event.
