Crete-Monee jumped out to a 17-0 first half lead and never trailed against the two-time defending 5A champs on Saturday in a 38-35 win over SHG in a 6A quarterfinal. SHG cut the lead to as few as three points in the second half.

Crete-Monee, who won the 2012 6A state title, improves to 10-2 with the win. SHG's season comes to an end with an 11-1 record. The Cyclones were playing in Class 6A because of the new IHSA success factor rule that was applied to them after they won each of the last two 5A championships.
