All assumptions were that rainy conditions would benefit the pound the rock style of North Mac on Saturday more than the Pleasant Plains spread offense. Then the Cardinals took a 20-7 lead to the half. But the Panthers, led by a relentless Griffin Hatalla, reeled off 20 unanswered points in the second half while shutting out Plains to squeak out a 27-20 win in their 3A post season opener.

North Mac advances to the second round where they'll play at Tolono Unity next Saturday. Unity beat Marshall 42-24 in Round 1.
