City Tournament makes for a huge week no matter the sport and for the SHG volleyball team, Tuesday night's matchup with a fellow CS8 unbeaten in Lincoln only added more weight. Not that you could see it. The Cyclones stepped out of City Tournament and into Roy S. Anderson Gymnasium to defeat Lincoln in straight sets to take over sole possession of first place in the conference. On Wednesday the Cyclones play Lanphier before getting six-time defending City champ Springfield High on Thursday.
Elise Cummins led SHG with a game high seven kills. Annie Urbance and Emma Hopkins chipped in with six and five respectively. But sophomore Renee Abernathy led a second wave of Cyclone offense that saw significant contributions from Delaney Jordan and Megan Lewis as well.
Lincoln was paced by Hannah Cameron's five kills. Kaylyn Hoffert and Josalyn Owens each added four in the 25-23, 25-21 loss.
