Auburn was a few first downs from salting away a win over Pleasant Plains on Friday but Logan McBride had other ideas. The senior defensive lineman stripped Auburn quarterback Drew Chance with less than two minutes to play and the Cardinals trailing 26-20. Plains recovered the fumble and a few plays later, Jacob Cronister connected with McBride for what proved to be the game winning score in a 27-26 Cardinals Win.
Cronister threw for 376 yards and three touchdowns on the night with McBride hauling in seven passes for 137 yards and two scores. Alex Pierce and Nik Georges also found paydirt for Pleasant Plains.
Chance was one of the major reasons Auburn was winning before the late fumble. He threw for 198 yards and two touchdowns to Drew Points. Chance added 84 yards and another score on the ground.
Pleasant Plains improves to 2-0 on the season with a Week 3 matchup against non-conference opponent Macomb on the schedule for Week 3. Auburn falls to 2-0 and will travel to unbeaten Athens.
