Cyclones pitcher Whitney David was smooth on the mound and came through at the plate as SHG downed the Green Wave 1-0 and advance to the sectional finals on Saturday.
David tossed a complete game three hitter, but it was her ability to strand Green Wave runners that was the key. She got out of a 4th inning, runner on 3rd base with one out situation, and came through again when Mattoon put runners on base in both the 5th and 6th innings and SHG clinging to a one run lead.
The Cyclones got that lead in the 3rd inning when David hit a sacrifice fly to leftfield that scored Renee Abernathy with the game's only run.
David improved to 21-3 on the season. SHG will square off with Glenwood for the 3A sectional title on Saturday. The two teams split the season series during the CS8 portion of the schedule.
