Prime Time Performer: February 19 – 24

Here are this week’s candidates for Prime Time Performer.

You can vote once every 12 hours until the polls close on Friday at 5 p.m.

The winner will receive a $20 gift card to Mariah’s Restaurant.

Isaiah Bowers (Lincoln Forward) Lincoln was looking to make a statement on Friday with 4A state ranked Normal West in town trying to spoil the Railsplitters senior night. Isaiah Bowers has been around long enough that he wasn’t ready to let that happen. Bowers scored ten of his 20 points in the fourth quarter along with two huge assists down the stretch to lock up a Lincoln victory.

Ben Butcher (New Berlin Guard) Seems like we talk about it every week, but then it happens yet again. Somebody different steps up to be the hero each week for New Berlin. This week it was Ben Butcher knocking down the long ball in the regional championship against Routt to make sure the Pretzels stayed alive. New Berlin heads down to White Hall for the sectional with plenty of confidence knowing Butcher and his boys are playing great basketball.

Casey Tuttle (Williamsville Guard) The scouting report is out there for Casey Tuttle. The man can shoot threes. He’s in the running for a national three point competition (go vote for that too). The problem is it’s so hard to keep him from hitting for an entire 32 minutes. Tuttle finally got free in the fourth quarter for the Bullets, just enough that he helped his team quickly build a lead on the Cardinals and lock up a third straight regional title for Williamsville.

Karl Wright (Lanphier Forward) Lanphier locked up yet another CS8 title on Friday night, but that’s nothing new for the North Side. We’re so used to seeing Karl Wright fly through the air and throw down hammers that the rest of his game might be a bit undersold. The Lions junior big man put up 16 points and grabbed six boards against Glenwood to make sure they were celebrating on Friday night.

Terrion Murdix (Southeast Guard) Welcome back, Terrion. Everybody on the East Side couldn’t wait for the return of the Spartans point guard and he delivered big time in his first game back from injury. Murdix put up 21 points, grabbed five boards, snagged three steals and dished out three assists against Lanphier as Southeast pulled away for the huge victory to make sure they got a share of the CS8 title this season.

Charlie Hamilton (SHG Guard) There’s times this season that SHG hasn’t scored 21 points as a team in an entire quarter. Well, junior guard Charlie Hamilton made sure that didn’t happen on Friday night in the fourth quarter. With the Cyclones trailing Eisenhower heading into the final frame, Charlie went off. Hamilton scored 21 points to lead SHG to a come from behind victory over the Panthers to close out the regular season strong.

Will Hanlon (Glenwood Forward) Shot of the year. Probably. Play of the Week. Definitely. Play of the Year? Certainly in the running. Best shot of his life. So far, yes. Will Hanlon hit one of the craziest shots you will ever see against Normal U-High last Tuesday night. Glenwood was down by two with 1.4 seconds left with the ball at half court. Luke Lehnen threw it to Hanlon near the logo at midcourt and somehow Hanlon was able to turn and fire and hit nothing but net to win the game for Glenwood. If that’s not a Prime Time Performance, we don’t know what is.

Tyrone Treadwell (Springfield High Track) Believe it or not, spring sports are here! Baseball, softball and soccer kicked off their practices on Monday and track already had their first meet. Springfield High hit the road north to the Normal West Indoor Invitational on Saturday and one Senator returned home with two first place finishes. Tyrone Treadwell won the triple jump (42’11.25”) and the 60 meter high hurdles (8.38).
