Coach Jones Reaches Milestone in Wins as the Loggers Take Homecoming

The Lincoln Land women’s team took on the Blazers of John Wood Community College on homecoming and won a decisive 68-46 victory. The Loggers started the game hot and got out to a quick 10 point lead only to see John Wood claw back and tie the game at 13.  Lincoln Land finished the first quarter on a six nothing run to lead at the end of the first period 19-13.  The second quarter saw the Logger defense step up holding John Wood to just seven points in the period.  Lincoln Land lead 33 – 20 at half time.

The second half started with a quick John Wood scoring burst.  The Loggers struggled to score during this stretch as well. “We came out of the half in a fog. Missed a couple easy shots and weren’t very fundamental on defense” stated Logger coach Chad Jones.  The Loggers gave up 18 points in the period.  Fortunately, the Loggers wore down John Wood late in the game and scored 21 points in the final frame while holding John Wood to just 8.

Lincoln Land struggled from the 3pt line shooting just 22%. The Loggers were lead in scoring by Marley Smith with 16.  Addison Scarlette and Madison Lovett each contributed 13.  Marley Smith and Cassidy Kretschmer each pulled down eight rebounds apiece.  Kayla Kodat dished out a team high four assists. With tonight’s 68-46 win over John Wood Community College, Lincoln Land coach Chad Jones becomes the all-time leader in women’s basketball coaching victories with 109.  Jones passes current Lincoln Land assistant Gary Albert who amassed 108 victories in his time as head coach. Jones and Albert have been coaching alongside each other the past four and a half years. “I feel like half of those wins should go to Coach Albert” stated Jones.  “Gary does so much for our program.  It’s been fun coaching together and we have been fortunate to win a lot of games.” Prior to leading the women’s program, Jones was the men’s head coach at Lincoln Land.  Jones is also the all-time wins leader for the Lincoln Land men’s team with 243 victories.

Lincoln Land improves to 13-4 on the season and 2-1 in conference play.  The Loggers travel to Champaign to take on Parkland College on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
