Trinity In Taylorville Prime Time Performer: December 26-31

Here are this week’s candidates for the Trinity Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Taylorville Prime Time Performer.

Zack Hawkinson (Sacred Heart Griffin Boys Basketball) Last year the Cyclone were State Farm Holiday Classic small school champs this year their champions in the large school bracket. A big week for SHG as they picked up four wins to stay unbeaten. Hawkinson averaged 18.5 points a game over the four wins. See the championship highlights HERE.

Chase Cunningham (MacArthur Boys Basketball) Another unbeaten team in the CS8 is the MacArthur Generals. They won their second Collinsville Tournament championship in two years on Friday. Throughout the tournament Cunningham was steady for the Generals with big games against Collinsville and Belleville East. Championship highlights HERE.

Abby Bell (PORTA Girls Basketball) The Lady Jays are another unbeaten team in the area as the girls won the Riverton Lady Hawk Christmas Classic last week defeating Dee-Mack. In the championship game Bell lead PORTA with 14 points. See the highlights of that game HERE.

Becca Heitzig (Lincoln Girls Basketball) The Railers moved to 18-0 last week beating previously unbeaten Dixon in the Dixon Tournament championship. Heitzig has been another great scoring option for Lincoln all year and finished with 45 points over their first three games of the tournament.

Alex Hamrick (Glenwood Wrestling) The Titans competed at the Flavin Duals in DeKalb over the holiday break and Hamrick finished 6-0 at 220 lbs. Glenwood is back in action this week against Taylorville and at the Carbondale Invite.

Dresden Grimm (Auburn Wrestling) The Trojans finished sixth at Abe’s Rumble late last week. Over the two day event Grimm went 8-0 picking up falls in all eight of his wins. Auburn heads to the Princeton Invite this weekend. Highlights from Abe’s Rumble HERE.

Josh Jones (Glenwood Boys Basketball) Jones made all tournament team at the Centralia Holiday Tournament as he averaged a double double in four games with 13 points and 12 rebounds. He also recorded a tournament high 48 rebounds.  

Gavin Arthalony (PORTA Boys Basketball) In the opening round of the Williamsville Holiday Tournament Arthalony tied a tournament record for most points in a single quarter. In the victory over Delavan he scored 18 in the third to tie the record and scored a game high 36 points. See the highlights HERE.

Mason Funk (UHigh Boys Basketball) Funk had a big week for the Pioneers as they went 3-1 in the State Farm Holiday Classic small school bracket. Funk scored 26 against Fieldcrest to advance to the semifinal then scored 19 more in the semifinal. He was also named to the all-tournament team. Kevin Howell (New Berlin Boys Basketball) Another great week for the Pretzels as they went 3-1 at the Waverly Holiday Tournament. Howell had a game winning shot in overtime of the semifinal against Triopia in a 39-38 victory. He finished that game with 18 points. Highlights of that victory HERE.

Amari Anderson (Calvary Boys Basketball) The Saints finished 5th in the Williamsville Holiday Tournament after falling to East Peoria in a double overtime thriller. Anderson hit a three at the buzzer to send the game to overtime. He also was a consistent scoring threat all week for Calvary. Highlights of that double OT game HERE.
