Trinity In Taylorville Prime Time Performer: January 3-8

Here are this week’s candidates for the Trinity Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Taylorville Prime Time Performer.

Randy Rice Jr (Lanphier Boys Basketball) The Lions travled up to Lincoln on Saturday night and handed the Railers their second loss of the season. Rice Jr had a great game finishing with 12 points and went 4 for 5 from the free throw line. He also had a couple steals and rebounds in the 42-32 victory.

Jayce Privia (PORTA Girls Basketball) A big re-matchup on Thursday night as the PORTA girls looked for a victory over Mt. Pulaski after falling to the Hilltoppers on a buzzer beater back in November. The Lady Jays picked up the win this time and was led by Privia with 15 points including 6 for 6 from the free throw line.

Zack Hawkinson (Sacred Heart Griffin Boys Basketball) The Cyclones remain unbeaten in conference play after a dominating 84-69 victory over MacArthur on Friday night. The junior finished with a double double that included 28 points and 14 rebounds.

Seth Doss (Southeast Boys Basketball) The Spartans shocked the CS8 on Tuesday with a comeback overtime win against MacArthur, who was unbeaten in conference play entering the game. Southeast trailed by 14 points in the fourth quarter but picked up the 63-60 victory. Doss had the game winner and a double double with 26 points and 17 rebounds.

Meghan Wegner (Sacred Heart Griffin Girls Basketball) Not only did the boys get a victory over the Generals on Friday night, the girls did too. Wegner hit a game winning free throw for the 53-52 victory in the back and forth battle at MacArthur. Wegner also had a game high 20 points.

Duncan Scheidenhelm (New Berlin Boys Basketball) Sangamo action in the Pretzel Dome on Friday night resulted in a 50-49 victory for New Berlin over Auburn. Scheidenhelm had a game winning layup with 1.1 seconds left for the win. He finished with nine points, all of which came in the second half.

Markez Cunningham (Eisenhower Boys Basketball) With another CS8 upset on Tuesday the Panthers beat Lanphier 61-50. Cunningham led Eisenhower as he went 9 of 13 with 19 points and picked up four steals.

Canon Bruce (Rochester Boys Basketball) The Rockets hosted Springfield High on what was a wild Tuesday night in the Central State Eight. Bruce had a team high 17 points with three 3s as Rochester picked up the 50-44 victory over the Senators.

Jerret Belford (Jacksonville Boys Basketball) The Crimsons used the three pointer to pick up a 58-44 win over U-High last Tuesday. Jacksonville used nine three’s to help propel them to victory and Belford contributed two threes as he lead the team with 17 points.

Anthony “Joey” Ruzic (Auburn Wrestling) The PIT brings out the best and Joey came home champion. Auburn’s 113 pound sophomore didn’t need more than one round in any matches on his way to the top of the podium, picking up three pins for another first place finish.
