Lewis jumped out on UIS in the final 12 minutes of the first half, building a 42-25 halftime lead that made Monday’s GLVC matchup at TRAC look over. Matt Wendling, Keymonta Johnson and the rest of the Prairie Stars decided that wouldn’t be the case, battling all the way back to retake the lead at 51-50 off a Wendling three, but Anthony D’Avanzo was too tough down the stretch as Jacksonville’s Brandon McCombs got the 71-62 W in Springfield Monday night. D’Avanzo finished with a game-high 19 points, as Johnson had 18 for UIS. Matt Wendling added 13, and McCombs had nine and six rebounds for Lewis.
