Prime Time Performer: Sept 3 – Sept 8

Here are this week’s candidates for Prime Time Performer.

You can vote once every 12 hours until the polls close on Friday at 5 p.m.

The winner will receive a $20 gift card to Mariah’s.

Dalton DiGiovanna (Athens Football) – Have a night, Dalton! The senior running back put up monster numbers for Athens in their thrilling overtime winner against PORTA in the blacktop bragging rights game Friday night. DiGiovanna tallied 227 yards and three touchdowns, including the overtime touchdown and two point conversion that eventually gave Athens the 26-24 win.

Luke Lehnen (Glenwood Football) – With breakout star running back Jason Hansbrough taken out of the game with an injury against Springfield High, junior quarterback Luke Leanne shouldered the load in a big way. Lehnen finished with only 65 yards on the ground but ran it in himself four times in goal to go situations for the Titans to effectively guide Glenwood away from a post-SHG letdown against Springfield High at Memorial Stadium.

Joey Milbrandt (SHG Football) – After Week 2’s loss to Glenwood, the Cyclones needed a big response, and Joey Milbrandt helped them do exactly that Friday night against Lanphier. The senior running back broke loose for three touchdowns off 77 yards while adding a two point conversion run and two interceptions on defense as well. Milbrandt really did a little bit of everything for the Cyclones on Friday night.

Collin Taylor (Springfield High Soccer) – The junior goalkeeper was fantastic for the Senators in net Tuesday night, recording a clean sheet as he made impressive saves all game to shut out a dangerous Glenwood team to help give Springfield High a 3-0 CS8 win.

Deyon Jackson (MacArthur Football) – Conditions were not suitable for throwing the ball for anyone Friday night, so many teams had to keep it on the ground. For MacArthur, that meant quarterback Deyon Jackson became a running back for the Generals. Jackson racked up 186 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries as MacArthur went on to rout Normal U-High 34-7.

Grant Ripperda (Williamsville Football) – We hyped up the speed vs. power matchup between Auburn and Williamsville enough heading into Friday’s game, but when things finally kicked off at Auburn, the Bullets elite ground game shined. The leader in the clubhouse Friday night was junior running back Grant Ripperda. Number 6 ripped off 145 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 carries. Ripperda added a two point conversion to boot in Williamsville’s 34-13 win.

Reed Rodgers (Jacksonville Soccer) – The senior Crimson effectively put Rochester away on Tuesday with two goals, one in the first and one in the second, to help give Jacksonville a 3-1 win. The Crimsons are undefeated in the CS8.

Sam McAfee (Pleasant Plains Football) – After falling to 1-1 with a loss to Athens in which the Warriors dominated the second half, Pleasant Plains had a great chance to bounce back against Riverton and senior Sam McAfee was a catalyst in that. McAfee carried the ball just three times, but he turned it into 74 yards and two touchdowns, while his lone catch went for 18 yards and a touchdown. McAfee touched the ball just four times, but got three touchdowns from it in Plains’ lopsided win over Riverton.

Justin Wright (Taylorville Football) – A PTP returnee already, we had to give the senior wide receiver from Taylorville a shoutout for breaking the all-time school receiving record. Wright racked up 237 receiving yards and two touchdowns Friday night, bringing his new record up to 2,633 yards.

Deon Fairlee (Southeast Football) – After an 0-2 start including a loss to a defending state champion and an overtime heartbreaker, the Spartans finally got off the skid Saturday at Millikin with a 47-8 win over Eisenhower. Senior wide receiver Deon Fairlee had a big day, totaling 135 yards and two touchdowns off 11 catches. Fairlee already has 46 catches through just three games, as he’s on pace to shatter his own single-season school record of 52.

Carly Smith (Glenwood Volleyball) – We don’t typically give out a PTP nomination to a player that took a loss, but Carly Smith deserves an exception. The Titans’ senior was ridiculous against Springfield High Tuesday night, racking up 16 kills as the Titans gave the Senators trouble, but ultimately SHS pulled away for the win in straight sets. No matter how you cut it, 16 kills in only two sets is very impressive.
