Who are the newcomers we should know about and why?
We have been extremely pleased with the numbers and consistent turnout during our summer workouts. Our greatest numbers came from our Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior classes. Last years Freshman and Sophomores competed well in the lower levels. We hope to transition that effort and success to this years varsity group. We will start this season with 22 spots open and we believe the competition to fill them will last nearly 10-days to two weeks. We have some real key sophomores fighting for those positions and we anticipate having an extremely young group of players on our field all year long.
What are the questions marks for this team heading into the 2018 season?
Adapting to the new Offense and working each week to becoming better at it. Obviously having less than fifty players for three separate teams makes it extremely difficult to compete three times a week and not deal with a great deal of injuries or lack of practice time. Our primary goal was set in April this year and understanding that our issues are not about wins and losses, but changing the culture and competing each week. Simply competing will put us in a position to win.
What’s something unique about this team that’s worth noting?
They understand our goal and the effort it will take to accomplish it.
Head Coach Paul Petty says:
“This will be perhaps one of the most important years in Saukee Football history. This team is being asked to re-establish the culture necessary to win. We must learn to compete before we can learn to win again. I believe the majority of this year’s team not only understands this, but has worked in a manner this summer to achieve it.”
