Prime Time Performer: May 14 – 19

Here are this week’s candidates for Prime Time Performer.

You can vote once every 12 hours until the polls close on Friday at 5 p.m.

The winner will receive a $20 gift card to Mariah’s Restaurant.

Kaileigh Moser (Williamsville softball) The Williamsville Bullets softball team has so many different stars, you might not hear about Kaileigh Moser a lot, but it’s her turn. K-Mo earns the Prime Time Performer nomination this week for her steady work at second base and the fact that she brought her bat to the regional. Moser hit a solo home run and had another RBI against Plains in the title game and had two hits against New Berlin earlier in the week.

Joey Lee (Pleasant Plains baseball) One swing of the bat landed Joey Lee on the Prime Time Performer list this week. Plains’ leadoff man hit a three run blast in the sixth inning that basically won the Cardinals the 2A regional title. Plains had to battle back to beat the Pretzels on their home field and Lee’s dinger got it done.

Eilish O’Brien (SHG soccer) SHG had the confidence to get it done after beating Morton exactly a week before on their home field. The Cyclones got a goal from Faith Washko to get them on the board, but the Eilish O’Brien score put things away. O’Brien and the Cyclones are headed to the Urbana sectional this week where SHG looks to win their second consecutive sectional crown.

Jake Nance (Athens baseball) A lot of guys remember certain birthdays as they grow up. Jake Nance will never forget his 18th birthday. The Athens pitcher threw a complete game shutout against Maroa-Forsyth to push his Warriors into the regional championship. Nance also had a RBI against the Trojans and then had four RBI’s on Saturday in an extra innings thriller against Warrensburg.

Dalton Minder (New Berlin baseball) The Pretzels wrapped up an incredible season on Saturday but they made New Berlin nation excited about the future of baseball. Dalton Minder came up big with a RBI sac fly against North Mac to push the Pretzels into the title game against Plains. Minder had a two run hit against the Cardinals on Saturday as well.

Renee Abernathy (SHG softball) Renee Abernathy has a lot of softball ahead of her, playing for Kentucky next year. She’ll also remember a lot of SHG softball moments and last Tuesday is probably going to make the Top 5 list. Abernathy celebrated senior night a day before her 18th birthday. She hit two home runs and knocked in all five RBI as the Cyclones beat Rochester 5-0 and clinched the outright CS8 title.

Peyton Taylor (Mt. Pulaski track) The best small school discus thrower in the state resides right here in our backyard. If you live anywhere near Mt. Pulaski, keep your head on a swivel this time of year knowing that Peyton Taylor is throwing the discus a country mile. Taylor has the state’s top 1A throw in the state heading into the state finals in Charleston this Saturday. His sectional toss was 169’1”.

Shane Yamco (Riverton track) The Riverton Hawks have a lot to cheer about this weekend when they send Shane Yamco off to Charleston. Yamco turned in the state’s top sectional time in 1A for the 800 with a time of 1:58.28, so he’s a serious threat to win a state title. They also get to watch him run the 1600 at state, where he’s got the fifth fastest time (4:30.36).

Terin Teeter (Glenwood softball) With seasons winding down this time of year, the talk tends to turn to what teams have coming back. Vondel Edgar and the Glenwood softball program have to be more than thrilled with the fact that Terin Tetter is only a freshman this year. The Titans pitcher threw a six inning perfect game last week against Springfield High.

Megan Behl (Taylorville softball) The Lincoln Land softball program has a history of success and part of that is based on pulling from the local talent pool. Next year, they’re getting a pretty darn good pitcher from Taylorville to put on the Logger uniform. Megan Behl threw a no hitter against Lincoln last week for the Tornadoes in a 4-0 victory.
