Auburn was a significant underdog coming into Saturday’s 2A Beardstown Regional final against Quincy Notre Dame, but that hadn’t stopped the Trojans in the past. Two years ago, Auburn upset QND behind a 19 strikeout performance from Tristan Weaver and on Saturday the Trojans jumped out to a six-run lead in the top of the first inning.
QND answered with four in the bottom of the first and chipped away to a 6-6 tie by the fifth inning when Tommy Ray, who was on the mound for Auburn’s big first inning, delivered a three-run game-winning home run.
QND advances to the Pleasant Plains sectional where they’ll play Warrensburg-Latham.
