With all eyes in the CS8 on the first game of the rivalry, SHG poured it on Rochester 11-1 to make the conference race really interesting entering the final few games.
Rochester, with a win, could have clinched at least a share of the CS8 baseball title. The Cyclones scored five runs in the first and went up 7-0 after two innings to make sure Glenwood and U-High have a shot to share the conference title this week.
If the Rockets win game two on Wednesday against SHG, they get a share of the title with Glenwood needing to sweep Springfield High this week and U-High needing to sweep Eisenhower in order to finish with just three losses a piece. The Cyclones have four conference losses this season.
