Prime Time Performer: April 2 – 7

Here are this week’s candidates for Prime Time Performer.

You can vote once every 12 hours until the polls close on Friday at 5 p.m.

The winner will receive a $20 gift card to Mariah’s Restaurant.

TJ Painter (Plains Baseball) The wind chill was hovering above 20 degrees, there was snow falling and the wind was whipping across the empty fields out in Pleasant Plains. Somehow, TJ Painter kept his arm warm enough to pitch a one hit shutout against Beardstown, striking out 14 in the process. The Cardinals’ ace was straight dealing against the Tigers, mixing his curve ball with the fastball at just the right moments.

Lauryn Martel (Glenwood Soccer) Glenwood was looking to defend their home turf and pick up an important non-conference win over a very good Pleasant Plains team on Thursday evening. With the clock winding down to a minute to play, Lauryn Martel came through in the clutch. The forward scored the game winner with 57 seconds to play to push the Titans to victory against the Cardinals.

Ben Chapman (Rochester Baseball) We finally got to see some Rochester baseball last week and an 11-0 win on the road is about as good as you can get. Ben Chapman helped power the offense with a three run home run, a double and a sac fly.

Brooklyn Blackwell (Plains Soccer) There’s not many better at finishing off chances than the Cardinals forward Brooklyn Blackwell. Pleasant Plains has a lot of options, but their go-to is Blackwell, who had a hat trick against Riverton and scored against Williamsville in two victories last week.

Brooke Steil (Rochester Soccer) The weather wasn’t exactly ideal for soccer, so Brooke Steil scored two goals in the first 15 minutes against Jacksonville. Maybe she was hoping…like we were, that the Rockets would score a lot of goals really fast and she could get out of the wind, cold and rain faster. Rochester won the game 4-0 over the Crimsons, thanks in part to Steil’s two first half goals.

Abby Bee (Plains Softball) We saw a few options from the Plains softball team last week. A couple worthy of Prime Time Performer nominations, but when we saw the stat line for the Cardinals game in which they crushed the Crimsons…it couldn’t be ignored. Abby Bee hit three home runs and drove in seven against Jacksonville. That’s quite a day.

Casey Bixby (New Berlin Baseball) In possibly the most notable win of the early Sangamo baseball season, the Pretzels turned some heads last week. New Berlin beat Williamsville on the diamond, thanks to a big game from Casey Bixby. The quarterback, forward and now pitcher threw a complete game giving up two unearned runs and scattering six hits against the Bullets.

Isaac Becker (Springfield High Baseball) We’ve made the rule official….no matter who you’re playing or what the weather is….a no-hitter gets you the Prime Time Performer nod. Isaac Becker threw a no-hitter last week in CS8 action for the Senators baseball team. Becker struck out 11 in a five inning win against Eisenhower.

Neely Rogers (Riverton Softball) It looks like we’re going to have to catch quite a few Sangamo softball games this season with the numbers of teams showing out early. See above for implied no-hitter rule here. The Riverton Hawks got a no-no from Neely Rogers against St Teresa. Rogers also pitched in three hits and knocked in four runs against the Bulldogs.
