Here are this week’s candidates for Prime Time Performer.

Danielle Dennis (Williamsville Softball) We knew two things about Williamsville softball coming into last week. They were going to be really good and Danielle Dennis, the future Illini softball player is a big reason why. Then we went out to see the Bullets play against Washington and Dennis hit two home runs and drove in five runs. The very next day, we drove in three against Lincoln and scored an inside the park home run in the first inning.
Kyle Werries (Glenwood Baseball) We could’ve easily put Jacob Maton up from Glenwood again this week after his two run home run helped the Titans beat SHG…but then his teammate Kyle Werries stole the spotlight on Wednesday. Werries had a big RBI to start the Glenwood scoring and then walked it off with a run scoring double in the bottom of the seventh. Werries then proceeded to backflip after his postgame interview to celebrate the sweep of the Cyclones.
Abbie Antonacci (SHG Softball) Speaking of sweeps, the SHG softball team got an important one last week against their rivals from Chatham. Their lineup is so tough to get through and Abbie Antonacci in the sixth hole is downright scary. Antonacci had four RBI’s against the Titans in two wins on Tuesday and Wednesday and then gave us another excellent post game interview.
Carlie Smith (Glenwood Soccer) To round out the CS8 rivalry coverage between Glenwood and SHG, we had a really really cold soccer game on Tuesday and only one goal scored. Therefore, the scorer of that goal gets nominated for Prime Time Performer. Carlie Smith sent one off the free kick and that proved to be the game winner. Even though it’s early in the season, that one goal from Smith could go a long way in the CS8 this season.
Taylor Page (Tri-City Softball) It’s not often we get the chance to see what Tri-City softball has against top competition. Friday, even though it was spitting rain and colder than softball weather should be, the Tornadoes showed up and showed out against SHG. Taylor Page came away with three hits and three runs batted in to help Tri-City beat the Cyclones 11-5.
Kyle Diamond (New Berlin Baseball) Coming through clutch in a conference game…in extra innings gets some attention. We saw Kyle Diamond’s ability to knock down the long ball on the hardwood and now we see him swinging the bat as well. Diamond hit a RBI single in the ninth inning to help New Berlin beat PORTA 4-2 for a big Sangamo win early in the season.
Nic Baker (Rochester Baseball) Guess who’s back? You probably got sick of seeing Nic Baker’s name in the Prime Time Performer write up every week last fall….but we’ve only got about three more months of Shake’N’Bake. You already know how good of a quarterback he is…but he can swing the stick with the best of them as well. Rochester’s third baseman had three hits against Athens, three hits against Southeast one day and then hit a home run and drove in two more runs in the Rockets’ other game against the Spartans.
Avery Dugan (Jacksonville Baseball) We have a general rule in the Spring and if you don’t think we saw or heard about it, please feel free to tweet or DM us when it happens. If you throw a no-hitter, you’re going to get nominated for Prime Time Performer that week. Jacksonville’s Avery Dugan struck out 13 Lions and didn’t allow a hit in the Crimsons’ 9-1 victory last week. Dugan also scored twice and drove in a run for Jacksonville as they picked up their first CS8 win of the season.
Pleasant Plains 4×800 (Relay) Even though we haven’t seen any track yet this season…we took notes from the Illinois Top Times meet on Saturday to see who the studs are going to be this season. Pleasant Plains boys track has the makings of a state title contender as a team and we see why with their 4×800 meter relay team winning a state indoor title and breaking the school indoor record. Nick Sunley, Brock Brummett, Otis Sanders and Luke McGraw brought home first with a time of 8.25.77.
Wyatt McIntyre (Athens Track) We didn’t see to see any track to know how good Wyatt McIntyre was going to be in his final season as a Warrior runner. The future Illini runner brought home the double distance crown on Saturday, winning the indoor state title in the 1600 (4:27.34) and the 3200 (9:22.47).
Cameron Witts (Williamsville Track) He won the outdoor state title as a sophomore last Spring…so we’ve got our eyes out in Williamsville at junior Cameron Witts. The Bullet brought home the pole vault indoor state title on Saturday with a jump of 15’. Watch out for Witts all season long in the Sangamo.
Serena Bolden (Southeast Track) Coming away from the indoor state meet with a first place and two third place finishes in 2A is pretty impressive. A name to remember from the East Side is Serena Bolden. The junior won the state title in triple jump with a distance of 40’5.25”. The Spartan brought home third place in the long jump at 19’4.75” and third in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.73.
