Lanphier and Champaign Central seem to keep getting in one another’s way. The Lions beat Central twice last season, once in the Lanphier Thanksgiving Tournament championship and then again in the 3A Effingham Sectional semifinals.
After the latter loss, Central’s Tim Finke, who was a junior at the time, told the News Gazette “That’s never going to happen again while I’m at Central. I guarantee that. I’m never losing to them again.”
Lanphier head coach Blake Turner recalled those comments after the Lions beat Lincoln 33-19 in Friday’s 3A Rochester regional championship.
Lanphier and Central meet on Tuesday in the 3A Eisenhower sectional semifinals.
