To a man, Lanphier players and coaches all conceded after the game that they wouldn’t have expected 33 points to be enough for a win in Friday’s 3A Rochester Regional Championship game against Lincoln. It was. Lanphier beat the Railers 33-19 and advance to the Eisenhower sectional.
The Lions broke an 11-11 half time tie, by shutting out Lincoln in the third quarter and jumping out to a 21-11 lead after three quarters. Cardell McGee led the way with a game high 13 points and Karl Wright provided the exclamation point on an ally-oop from McGee late in the quarter.
Lanphier will play Champaign Central in the sectional semifinals. The Lions beat Central in the same game last year.
